Ipod in Iraq
Anyone else catch the story about the soldier in Iraq whose iPod saved his life? Supposedly an AK-47’s bullet tore through the soldier’s handy dandy iPod jacket pocket, where Apple’s little portable media player stopped the bullet from going through all the way. Anywho, the story held my interest for a little while mainly because of the picture.
But wouldn’t he have also have been wearing a bullet proof vest?

Ahh, so that’s how you remove the metal cover to change the battery.

Yes, he would have also been wearing his IBA (interceptor body armor) with plates in it. But that doesn’t cover everything — there are small cracks and places that are not completely protected — and apparently his iPod just happened to be in the right spot :D (I am in the Infantry and have spent lots of time wearing body armor.)
What I’m wondering is whether Apple replaced the iPod for him or not. I’m sure that bullet holes aren’t covered by the warranty, but it seems like it would make a nice publicity stunt for them.

Yes, I wondered the very same thing!
